Mod 3 - Meg Gross - Weekly Journal

What are your personal professional IT strengths (technical and soft skills)?

So here is the weird thing about this question…I don’t know that I have my IT strengths in the traditional sense.  Years back I was laid off from the banking / mortgage business and needed a new career to provide for my family.  I went back to OC to get my AA-S in Information Systems with a focus on Cisco Networking / Network management.  I was okay in school, struggled a lot with many concepts…but one thing I was always good at was learning the new concepts and explaining them to people in a non-technical manner and then providing the IT teams their feedback but in technical terms.  Thus, this is why I believe I went in to project management vs. going forward with my Network Engineer career pathway.

What are your professional IT goals? Be CLEAR (Links to an external site.), and include at least 1 immediate goal (0-1 year) and 2 long term goals (5-10 years out).

In the next 1 year I would like to be promoted to Sr. Global Implementation Manager

In the Next 5 Years I would like to:

  • Get my MBA in Project Management from LSU
  • Be a Director of Implementation Management

How well do your strengths and goals align?

I believe my strengths and goals align perfectly because given what I have already accomplished thru far in my career it would only make sense that I would seek additional education / training in order to advance my career further.
